Psychology: focus, performance and everyday pressure

You can have your sessions in English if that is the language in which you can explain yourself most comfortably. We start with what is actually going on for you — exam pressure, work stress, anxiety, a low mood, a fear that has started running your day — and what you would like to change. You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis or the right words for everything.

Sessions are available by video call or at home in Granada. The first conversation is free and is a chance to see whether this way of working suits you.

Why your home, not a clinic

There is no waiting room and no practice to travel to. I come to you in Granada, or we talk by video call from wherever you are — useful if you are new to the city, do not drive yet, or split your time between here and somewhere else.

It is not only a matter of convenience. Whatever is going on for you is happening in the place you actually live, and that is where the work needs to hold up — not just inside a session.

I also see few clients at a time, on purpose. It means I remember what you told me last week, and there is room to bring your family into a conversation if that would help.

Neuropsychology and memory concerns in Granada

If you are worried about your own memory, or about a change you have noticed in someone close to you — a parent, a partner, a child who is not developing quite as expected — a neuropsychological assessment looks at how attention, memory, language and other cognitive functions are actually working, not just how things feel.

The assessment is always in person, never by video call. The tests need physical material, timed conditions and direct observation, so I come to your home in Granada for this part. It includes an initial interview, the standardised tests your case needs, a written report you — and, if relevant, a doctor back home — can use, and a feedback session where I explain the results in plain English.

What changes once we start working together

I don't promise a fixed number of sessions. The goal is that you understand what's going on and decide what to do about it. What usually does change:

  • You get a clear picture of what is happening, explained in plain English, not clinical jargon.
  • You have a plan you understand, reviewed every few sessions — if it isn't helping, I'll say so before you have to.
  • Your family can be part of it, when that's useful, even if English is the only language that works for that conversation.
  • You know what to do next, whether that's continuing here, a referral, or simply having the report you need.

How the first conversation works

We take the time to understand what has brought you here, what you have already tried and what you need now. I explain the possible next steps plainly. You can then decide whether you would like to continue — there is no pressure either way.

The service is provided by Fernando Ruiz Martínez, psychologist and neuropsychologist (Col. M-39091).

Online or at home in Granada

For therapy, online sessions work well when you have a private place to talk and a reliable internet connection. A home visit can make more sense when travelling is difficult, or when your home environment is actually part of what needs to be understood. We decide this together before starting.

This choice is for therapy. As above, the neuropsychological assessment is always done in person.

Reading this for someone else?

If you are here because you are worried about a partner, a parent or your child rather than about yourself, say so when you get in touch. The first conversation can include you, in English, even if the person you are worried about is not ready to book yet.

Questions about sessions in English

What happens if I leave Spain in the middle of treatment?

We keep going by video call for as long as that works, wherever you are. If it reaches a point where handing over to someone local makes more sense, I'll say so and write you a summary to take with you — you won't start again from zero.

Is a Spanish psychology licence relevant if I go back to my home country?

The licence (Col. M-39091) is what lets me practise here; it isn't a claim about how another country's system works. What travels with you is the written report and the clinical picture, in English, that a professional elsewhere can pick up and continue from.

Do I need a diagnosis before booking?

No. The first session is a chance to explain what is happening and decide whether this service is suitable for you.

Is the neuropsychological assessment ever done by video call?

No. The assessment is always in person — I come to your home in Granada. The tests need physical material and direct observation, so this part cannot be done remotely, whatever the reason for it.

I don't know how private practice works in Spain — can you explain it?

Yes, that's part of the first conversation. There is no waiting list or referral needed to see a psychologist privately here. You book directly, we talk about what's going on, and if we continue, you pay session by session — no ongoing contract.

Will a report be useful if we move again, or back home?

Reports are written in English or Spanish and describe the tests used and the results in a standard, internationally recognised format, so a professional in another country can read and use them. I can't guarantee how a specific institution abroad will treat it, but the report itself isn't tied to Spain.

Can a family member who doesn't speak Spanish join a session?

Yes. If English is the language that works for your family, sessions and the parts of an assessment that involve them can be held in English throughout.
